On May 29, the Center for Hydride Energy Chemistry organized a patent writing by inviting Mr. Ma Chi, from Shenyang Patent and Trademark Agency Academia Sinica, aiming to strengthen the Center’s intellectual property protection framework and improve the quality of patent translations for scientific research outputs. This training was attended by research staff and postgraduate students.

During the session, Ma analysed key problems and bottlenecks in the center’s patent work using professional experience and typical cases. The training covered essential topics such as patent protection, patent prosecution and grant, strategic portfolio development, and identification of patentable innovations. Through targeted guidance and interactive discussions, Ma helped members of the center address practical difficulties in transforming research outcomes, clarify working strategies, and standardise the center's future patent development.

Ma further explained the legal essence and economic value of patents, defining inventions as three categories: products, methods and applications. He emphasised that high-quality patent documents require cleary defined definition and complete technical solutions. He noted that claims should accurately define the protection scope to balance enforceability with patentabilityy, while specifications should provide sufficient technical disclosure to enable replication by ordinary professionals in the field. These standards provide clear benchmarks for the center’s systematic patent writing practices.

With active discussion and interaction, the training has effectively deepened members’ understanding of intellectual property protection, improved their patent writing skills, and provided strong support for the high-quality development of the center’s patent work.
